~Vintage Alice!

alice in garden.
This is a delightful antique color plate from
a scarce edition of Through the Looking Glass
by Lewis Carroll, published by Frederick Stokes
circa 1904. Illustrated by M.L. (Maria) Kirk,
the plate being offered here illustrates
the following excerpt:

.

''She's coming!' cried the Larkspur.
'I hear her footstep, thump, thump, thump,
along the gravel-walk!'

Alice looked round eagerly, and found that
it was the Red Queen. 'She's grown a good deal!'
was her first remark. She had indeed: when
Alice first found her in the ashes, she had been
only three inches high — and here she was,
half a head taller than Alice herself!

That's just lovely. Just follow the White Rabbit as it said in the Matrix.

Hoi Anna,

Wat een mooie prent. Ik heb vorige week de DVD gekocht van Tim Burton's verfilming. Echt heel goed!

Fijn weekend!

Lieve groet, Madelief

Oh, that's lovely. I remember I used to have a lovely old hardbacked book with both the Wonderland and Through The Looking Glass stories when I was a kid and my sister and I read it so much the pages started to fall out. It had lovely pictures too, but they were in black and white and nowhere near as pretty as this. What a lovely find! You have a beautiful blog, by the way. Such a great little corner of the web.
