In 1921 kreeg het Kasteel van D’Asprimont Lynden
te Oud Rekum in België, de functie
van Psychiatrisch ziekenhuis.
Het was gekend onder de naam
“Rijkskrankzinnigengesticht”

In 1921 was the castle D'Asprimont Lynden
to Oud Rekum in Belgium, in function
of a Psychiatric Hospital.
Better known as the Insane Asylum!

In die tijdsgeest werden Psychiatrische patiënten
vaak uit de maatschappij geweerd.
Zij verbleven de rest van hun leven in de
instelling en hadden geen familie meer
of de familie had alle banden met hen verbroken!
~
In the spirit of those times psychiatric patients
were often excluded from society.
They stayed the rest of their lives in the
institution and had no family
or the family had broken all ties with them!

De populatie bestond toen enkel uit mannen
afkomstig uit geheel België.
Tussen 1921 en 1981 werden om en bij de 1750
overledenen uit de instelling op dit Kerkhof begraven.
~
The population then consisted solely of men
from all across Belgium.
Between 1921 and 1981 there were around 1750
deceased from this institution buried in this cemetery.

Het was eigendom van het ziekenhuis
en werd door patiënten onderhouden.
Sinds 1981 worden overleden patiënten op ‘n
gemeentelijke begraafplaats begraven,
of word die beslissing overgelaten aan de familie.
~
The Cementery was owned by the hospital
and was maintained by patients.
Since 1981 deceased patients are
buried in the municipal cemetery,
or get that decision left to the family.

Bedankt Richard, voor je mooie foto’s!
